Three Pre-Conferences

1.  Incorporating Cultural Competency & Sensitivity Into Recovery Operations

In order to provide quality professional services to members of different cultures, one must understand the nuances of the cultures.  These difference lie much deeper than just outward appearance and spoken language.   They actually encompass a belief system and a series of perceptions that once understood by the practitioner can allow the services to be delivered in a more concise, user friendly manner which ultimately not only benefits the recipient and his or her family, but the professional delivering the support and services as well.

The misconceptions, stereotypes, and misunderstanding of people of different cultural backgrounds lends itself to intolerance and errors in the handling of the needs of those individuals.

For those involved in substance abuse, social service and criminal justice fields, those errors can lead to the success or failure of the individual.

This one day workshop is not meant as a substitute or ongoing and continuing cultural sensitivity training as much as it is meant to open new doors, establish new contacts and most importantly to shift the focus from the sterile academic handling of the subject to just people learning about other people and finding a common ground from which to begin to work together.
